Swadron Associates thanks its pro bono students

May 1, 2009 - Toronto - Swadron Associates is pleased to formally announce its gratitude for two years of successful volunteer placements from Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC).  Now that the projects have concluded for the 2008-2009 academic year, Swadron Associates would like to formally thank the students who provided valuable assistance to its clients in central areas of its practice. 

In the past two years, Swadron Associates’ relationship with PBSC has led to the following immeasurable contributions to Swadron Associates’ resource base in central areas of the firm’s practice:

• Carolyn Rock has contributed to a paper on the first decade of the Mental Health Legal Committee and provided comprehensive research into the quantum of damage awards in personal injury actions, particularly against police;

• Dennis Kao has provided research into the admissibility of and weight to be given to expert evidence respecting racial profiling;

• Jeremy Martin created a searchable, categorized database of decisions of the Consent and Capacity Board, a tribunal before which Swadron Associates’ frequently appears as counsel to psychiatric consumer-survivors and other clients; and

• David Shultz has provided research respecting the prominent causes of action involved in civil actions against police, including negligent investigation and malicious prosecution.

On behalf of its clients, who stand to benefit tremendously from these generous efforts, Swadron Associates wishes to express its sincere thanks to these students and the PBSC coordinators.  The firm is honoured to have received such competent and dedicated assistance.
