Swadron Associates welcomes Joanna Weiss

January 3, 2017 - Toronto - Swadron Associates is extremely pleased to announce that Joanna Weiss has joined the firm as an associate lawyer.

Joanna was called to the Ontario Bar in January 2013 after completing her articles of clerkship with two criminal law firms. She then started her own criminal defence practice and worked on coroners inquests respecting in-custody deaths. For the past three years, Joanna has been an associate lawyer in a mental health law boutique focussing on representing clients before the Consent and Capacity Board and in appeals to the Superior Court of Justice.

Joanna attended McMaster University in Hamilton, graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, with distinction, in 2007. She then enrolled in the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in Halifax, where she obtained her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with a Health Law and Policy Specialization designation. While at law school, Joanna served as a research assistant and completed a clinical term at Dalhousie Legal Aid Service. She was also awarded the Dugald Christie Memorial Bursary in Law for commitment to community service and social justice.

"Joanna's addition reinforces the firm's commitment to mental health and capacity law before all tribunal and court levels. We also look forward to expanding Joanna's practice to assist clients in the other areas that we serve" said Marshall Swadron on behalf of the firm.
