Firm wishes Matías well in his new role

October 31, 2023: Swadron Associates extends its congratulations to Matías Contreras León on his new position as Duty Counsel in the busy New Toronto Courthouse, the 17-storey state-of-the-art amalgamation of six Ontario Court of Justice criminal courthouses on Armory Street in Toronto.

Matías attended Osgoode Hall Law School and was a summer and articling student at criminal defence firm Hicks Adams LLP before joining Swadron Associates upon his call to the Bar. Prior to attending law school, Matías completed an undergraduate degree at Smith College in Massachusetts and worked for a number of years as a tenant advocate and supportive housing manager in San Francisco and Vancouver.

At law school, Matías was awarded the Wendy Babcock Social Justice Award for his commitment to community service and social justice, including serving as a caseworker and division leader with the student-run law clinic, Community and Legal Aid Services Program (CLASP) and a caseworker for Innocence Canada. He was also co-president of Osgoode OUTLaws and managed the school’s chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada.

Matías is fluent in Spanish and worked in all areas of Swadron Associates' practice. He will be missed.
